Northern Lights, also known as "NL," is a legendary indica-dominant cannabis strain that emerged in the 1980s. The exact origins of the strain are shrouded in mystery, but it is widely believed to have been developed from a mix of Afghan landrace indicas and a Thai sativa. The original breeding is said to have taken place on an island near Seattle, Washington, by a breeder known as "The Indian."

The strain is popular not only among consumers but also among growers, as it is resistant to mold and pests and relatively easy to cultivate.
